2023 girls a

Congratulations to the MJHS Girls A basketball team on an excellent season!

From Coach Welch:

The Bobcats Girls A basketball team ended the season with an 8-4 record. This placed them in 4th place and earned a first round bye. Their semi-final game took them to Central of east Corinth to seek revenge for a loss the previous week by one point. This set the table for what was to be a classic rematch. The game lived up to the hype in a seesaw battle as the lead changed hands the entire game. The Bobcats pulled away in the final minute and came away with a 47-43 victory. Scoring was led by Jessi Kimball with 22 points and double digit rebounds. Natalie Turner added 11 and stepped up the tempo with many spot on passes in transition. Marissa Libbey added 6 points and also double digit rebounds. Lilly Noonan and Riley Irish led a shutdown defense. On to a rematch of what has become must see junior high sports, Bobcats vs SeDoMoCha of Dover. The same scenario was set, to avenge a one point loss at Dover the week before, and like the central game, everyone got their money's worth. We were down by 11 at half time and as much as 13 as late as the 4th quarter, but the Bobcats clawed their way back and tied it up with under two minutes remaining. SeDoMoCha hit some key free throws and eventually pulled away to a 43-39 victory. The never say die mentality was evident in this game as the girls played their hearts out and left it all on the court. Scoring again was led by Jessi Kimball with 15 points, Vanessa Morse with 10 and Riley Irish with 7. Eliza Donath and Marissa Libbey worked the boards and a great team effort was showed on the defensive end.

I am so proud of this team. After losing nine girls to high school last year it was thought to be a rebuilding year, but these girls never bought into that. They had a goal to win it all again and came one minute shy. It was a team effort all year with contributions from Rylee Cyr, Tae DeLaCruz, Izzy Morin, and Gabby Tash. And of course, Sophia Dube who worked very hard every minute and was our team leader on the court, on the bench and mostly in the locker room, always being so positive and with a team first attitude. I'd also like to give a big thank you to Merin Rhodes for being an amazing manager!
