If you're interested in skiing with MJHS this season, please read through the following information about rules, how to sign up, dates to pick up equipment, and scheduled trips.
We are also seeking donations of skis with bindings in good condition sizes 100-170 as we're excited to have more 4th and 5th graders signed up this year.
2023 MJHS Ski Club Rules and Information:
Skiers must be registered through Family ID (online) in order to participate in this activity. (https://www.familyid.com/organizations/mattanawcook-rsu-no-67). Interested students should also sign up on the clipboard in the cafeteria.
No inappropriate language at any time.
Be at the school ready to board buses at 9am.
Be ready to board the bus back to the junior high at 4 pm.
No horseplay allowed.
No cutting the t-bar line.
New skiers are not permitted to use the t-bar unaccompanied until an instructor has approved them.
Skiers must ski under control at all times.
Use caution when overtaking other skiers.
Follow direction from all instructors and chaperones.
Take care of your equipment.
Follow all bus rules.
No music allowed while you are skiing.
Stay in the lodge as minimally as possible.
Helmets are recommended for all skiers, but not a requirement.
Tickets to Mt. Jefferson will cost $22. Tickets to Mars Hill will cost $30. Please have cash ready to give to an instructor at the buses. If paying by check, please make it payable to Mattanawcook Junior High School.
We will be riding two buses to the ski area. One bus will be for grades 4-5 and one for grades 6-8. One bus will stay at the ski area at all times. You will bring your equipment on the bus with you. You can wear your ski boots to the ski area or change into them on the bus. You can leave your belongings on the bus, but the bus may not be supervised so you should not leave valuables on the bus.
You should dress in layers. You should wear long winter/wool socks under your boots.
The lodge usually has a snack bar with food for purchase, but we encourage all students to bring water and something to eat with them to the mountain.
Below is a schedule for the season:
January 24th | Pass out skis to 4th-6th grade- Students will stay after school and in their homerooms until ski club is called down. Students will need to have a ride lined up, as we cannot guarantee they will be ready when the late bus leaves. |
January 25th | Pass out skis to 7th-8th grade- Students will stay after school and in their homerooms until ski club is called down. Students will need to have a ride lined up, as we cannot guarantee they will be ready when the late bus leaves. |
January 27th | Make up date to get skis- Students will stay after school and in their homerooms until ski club is called down. Students will need to have a ride lined up. |
January 28 | First ski trip (MARS HILL) This trip will cost $30- Great bunny hill for students to learn. Due to the shortage of buses, we only have one bus for our first trip. The office will have a sign-up sheet for the first 45 students to attend this trip. |
February 4 | Second ski trip |
February 11 | Third ski trip |
February 18 | Fourth ski trip |

Please have a ride ready for the day you are picking up skis because we cannot guarantee that you will be able to make the late bus.
Please contact Mr. Carmichael (acarmichael@rsu67.org) if you need to make arrangements to attend a day to get skis not designated to your grade level (example: siblings in 4th and 8th grade).
