8th grade

May 27, 2022

Dear 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

This is an exciting time of year for 8th graders and their families as they finish their last days at Mattanawcook Junior High School and prepare for high school next year. We are happy that we can offer a more normal end of the year with a return of our traditional activities. I’ve included a summary of these activities below.

June 1st & 2nd: Meet Mattanawcook Academy counselors to discuss course schedules for next year. Please call to set up an appointment with your high school counselor. Appointments are available from 3:30-6:30pm on these dates. Mrs. Cole has given students course information and sign up sheets.

June 3rd: 7th & 8th grade last dance with dinner before, both at MJHS. Students do not need formal attire, but we ask that they dress nicer than a regular school day. Dinner is from 5:00-6:30pm in the cafeteria. Pizza and ice cream will be served. The dance is from 7:00-9:00pm, and many families choose to take pictures in front of the school or in the gym before the dance, but we’ll be asking parents and guardians to leave when the dance begins.

June 10th: Beach Day if weather cooperates. Students will walk to Prince Thomas Park to swim, play volleyball, and celebrate their time at MJHS. Please send sunscreen, bathing suits, and towels. A permission slip will be sent home soon.

June 13th: Step Up Day at Mattanawcook Academy at 12:00pm. Students will be bussed to MA with the 8th grade teachers for a tour and meeting with staff at the high school.

June 15th: Last Assembly at 1:30pm, tickets are required and were sent home with details. Students usually wear something nicer than a regular school day, and we ask that they not wear jeans or t-shirts. They will be walking up and down stairs to the stage, so we suggest shoes they can walk comfortably in.

Sincerely,

Sarah Hainer, Principal
