We were thrilled to welcome the Maine Mobile BIOLAB to MJHS in November! Students in grades 6 and 8 participated in the engaging lab activity “It’s All in Your Head.”
This hands-on activity explored Newton’s Laws of Motion through the fascinating lens of concussions and helmet safety. Students investigated the mechanics of concussions and worked with a force plate to measure force and impact duration. They also experimented with different simulated helmet materials to understand how helmets protect us from traumatic brain injuries.
Our students had a fantastic time combining science and real-world applications, learning about the importance of helmet design and how it keeps us safe.
Students in grades 4 and 7 learned about native and invasive species and solved the problem of overpopulation. They loved buying their tools and found things that worked well and didn’t work well. Teachers appreciated the group effort and seeing their perseverance.
We are grateful for this exciting opportunity and look forward to more hands-on learning experiences like this in the future!
Thank you, Maine Mobile BIOLAB, for visiting and inspiring our young scientists!
