Students on the honor roll during the first trimester received a letter congratulating their academic achievement and an invitation from Senator Tipping to be Honorary Pages in the Senate. On Tuesday, February 27th, MJHS was able to send a van of randomly selected students from these recipients. Hayden Brooks, Jaykob Johnson, Hannah Langley, Daxton Averill, Steven Burns, and Elsie Krapf from MJHS traveled to the Maine State House in Augusta. They started the day being greeted by Representative Kathy Javner (District 29 - Chester) and Representative Irene Gifford (District 28 - Lincoln). Upon arrival, students were welcomed into Governor Mill's office, where they learned about the new State of Maine seal and the first Governor of Maine. Students then moved to the Senate Chambers to learn about their paging duties. Before the session started, they met Senator Tipping (District 8 - Penobscot County). Each student had several opportunities during the session to help pass materials and deliver notes to all senators. After the session ended, students met Representative Tracy Quint (District 8 - Hodgdon) and Senator Marianne Moore (District 6 - Washington County). Students enjoyed lunch at the Cross Cafe with Representative Kathy Javner before receiving a tour of the House of Representatives offices and the Burton M. Cross Building. Thank you to all of our local state representatives for making sure the students of MJHS felt welcome during their visit to the Maine State House.
