Mattanawcook Jr. High School

This letter will be sent home with students who have signed up for ski club.

Dear Families, 

Your student expressed interest in skiing with MJHS this season. Please read through the following information about rules, how to sign up, dates to pick up equipment, and scheduled trips. 

Skiers must have a parent/guardian register them through Family ID (online) to participate in this activity, and the deadline is Friday, January 19th. The Family ID Link: https://www.familyid.com/organizations/mattanawcook-rsu-no-67 

Please have a ride ready for the day you pick up skis because we cannot guarantee students will be able to make the late bus. 

2023 MJHS Ski Club Rules and Information:

1. No inappropriate language at any time.

2. Be at the school ready to board buses at 9 am.

3. Be ready to board the bus back to the junior high at 4 pm. 

4. No horseplay allowed.

5. No cutting the t-bar line.

6. New skiers are not permitted to use the t-bar unaccompanied until an instructor has approved them.

7. Skiers must ski under control at all times. 

8. Use caution when overtaking other skiers.

9. Follow directions from all instructors and chaperones.

10. Take care of your equipment.

11. Follow all bus rules.

12. No music is allowed while you are skiing.

13. Stay in the lodge as minimally as possible. 

14. Helmets are required for all skiers and will be assigned when passing out equipment if you do not own your own.

Tickets to Mt. Jefferson will cost $25. Tickets to Mars Hill will cost $25. Please have cash ready to give to an instructor at the buses. If paying by check, please make it payable to Mattanawcook Junior High School. Big Rock has an additional waiver form for families to sign and return before the trip.

We will be riding one bus to the ski area. A sign-up sheet will be in the office on Monday to sign up if you intend to ski that weekend. You will bring your equipment on the bus with you. You can wear your ski boots to the ski area or change into them on the bus. You can leave your belongings on the bus, but the bus may not be supervised, so you should not leave valuables on the bus.

You should dress in layers and wear long winter/wool socks under your boots. The lodge usually has a snack bar with food for purchase, but we encourage all students to bring water and something to eat with them to the mountain.   

Please contact Mr. Carmichael (acarmichael@rsu67.org) if you need to make arrangements to attend a day to get skis not designated to your group (for example: siblings in 4th and 8th grade).

Ski Club Schedule  (** schedule edits due to snow day and after-school activity cancellation)

January 9th	Pass out skis to 4th -5th grades
**January 17th	**Pass out skis to remaining registered students for the Saturday, 1/20/24 trip- sign-ups for this trip have closed and students who are going have met with Mrs. Burns on 1/16/24 to verify. This will be a lengthy equipment distribution because 22 kids still need equipment. Families should plan on picking them up and it could be as late as 5:00pm.
**January 18th	**Pass out skis to remaining students already registered on family ID, approximately 30 students who are not on the list to attend on Saturday, January 20th. This will be a lengthy equipment distribution, and families should plan on picking students up anytime between 3:00 and 6:00pm.
January 20th	First ski trip to MARS HILL (Cost will be $25 and must be cash or a check made out to Mattanawcook Junior High School)
January 27th	Ski trip (one bus available)
February 3rd	Ski trip
February 10th	Ski trip
February 17th	Ski trip
