March 15, 2020
Dear Staff, Parents, and Community Members:
We all recognize there is no replacement for the quality instruction provided in the classroom from our teachers. However, given the nature of the extended school closure, my goal is to keep our students engaged in learning and connected with our teachers. Staff members have worked diligently to develop learning materials for each student to support this goal.
Learning materials may be picked up on Tuesday, March 17th, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at your child’s school at the following locations:
- Mattanawcook Academy - Cafeteria
- Mattanawcook Jr. High School - Gym
- Ella P. Burr School - Gym
Staff will be present to assist you in collecting these materials. We have been asked by a few parents about how to get their child’s personal items left at school. Although we will not be allowing access to other parts of the building, staff members will get the items and bring them to you at the pick-up location.
Throughout the school closure, teachers will be available from 8:00-2:00 to provide support to students and families. Teachers will use a variety of methods such as phone calls, e-mails, Google Classroom, Classroom Dojo, etc. Your child’s teacher will provide information for you regarding details on how that will work for your child’s class(es).
At this time, we are still working out the details for the remote feeding of breakfast, snack and lunch for all students. Information will be provided as soon as it becomes available. Please continue to check the district website regularly for updated information.
The health and safety of our students, staff, and community continues to be my top priority. I will reassess the return to school as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and support in this time of tremendous uncertainty.
Sincerely,
Jean Skorapa, Superintendent of Schools
