AP Biology students from MA recently visited the University of Maine to learn first hand how researchers and students use their facilities. Students were provided access to the cellular biology and microbiology department and were introduced to Dr. Robert Gunderson who they worked alongside to perform gel electrophoresis using a centrifuge and quantified it with nanodrop uv vis spectroscopy. Many of the students in AP Biology have post-secondary aspirations related to the medical field so this was definitely a valuable experience! A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Knowles for arranging such a meaningful visit!
