Regional School Unit No. 67 announces that Heidi Fairbanks was elected unanimously as the next Principal of Ella P. Burr School by the School Board at their meeting on May 17, 2023. Ms. Fairbanks holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Southeast, a Master of Education in Special Education from the University of Alaska Anchorage, a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Sheldon Jackson College, and an Associate of Arts in Outdoor Recreation from Sheldon Jackson College.
Although originally from Maine and a graduate of Wiscasset High School, Ms. Fairbanks lived and worked in Alaska for most of her adult life. She worked as a K-3 teacher in the Iditarod school district; a special education teacher and building administrator in the Copper River School District; and, she worked as a special education teacher and special education administrator in the Skagway School District. In 2021, Ms. Fairbanks returned to Maine to become the building administrator for the Jonesport Elementary School in Jonesport, Maine.
Ms. Fairbanks is a lover of animals and outdoor activities. In 2015, she competed in the Iditarod Trail Dog Sled Race, finishing 48 th overall with a time of 12 days, 3 hours, 39 minutes, and 9 seconds.
Ms. Fairbanks replaces Mr. Peter Loiselle who is leaving R.S.U. No. 67 at the end of June to enjoy his retirement.
