September 22, 2023
Dear RSU 67 Families, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that William Frake, a Junior at Mattanawcook Academy, passed away at home earlier today. Our sincere condolences are offered to William’s family and friends at this very difficult time. As our students, staff, and communities process this news and cope with grief, the district is prepared to offer counseling and bereavement support to any students and staff in need.
The cafeteria at Mattanawcook Academy will be open tomorrow (Saturday) September 23, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for any students or staff who want to gather. School counselors will be available at that time for students or staff members who may need or want support surrounding this loss.
The death of a student can be very difficult to process, especially for children and young adults. In this regard, we encourage you to listen carefully and answer any questions they have openly and honestly. Accepting and validating their feelings is important.
In the coming days, you may find that your child or young adult needs to discuss his/her feelings. The district will have extra counselors available throughout the weekend and next week to assist any student in need. If you need immediate assistance, we encourage you to call the Community Health and Counseling Crisis line at 1-888-568-1112.
Our deepest sympathy to the entire family.
Sincerely,
Paul Austin
Superintendent of Schools
